32nd Jankidevi Bajaj Puraskar Honours Nikkitaa Navlekar for Transforming Rural Livelihoods
The IMC Ladies’ Wing hosted the 32nd Jankidevi Bajaj Puraskar on 7 January 2026 at the IMC, Churchgate, Mumbai. The occasion celebrated the enduring power of women’s leadership and the transformative impact of their work on society. Over the years, the Puraskar has become one of India’s most respected recognitions of women who embody excellence, resilience and purpose in advancing social and economic empowerment.
The event was graced by Mr. S. P. Singh Baghel, Hon’ble Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Panchayati Raj, Government of India, as Chief Guest. Applauding the IMC Ladies’ Wing for its sustained commitment to celebrating women’s achievements, he lauded the Bajaj family’s distinguished legacy of service from their pivotal role in India’s freedom movement to their continued contribution to national progress and social reform.
Mrs. Ratna Pathak Shah, Guest of Honour, lent a deeply resonant note to the evening, urging women to “live their dreams and step forward with courage.” Her words captured the spirit of the Puraskar, honouring women who lead with conviction, creativity and compassion.
The 2026 Jankidevi Bajaj Puraskar was presented to Mrs. Nikkitaa Navlekar, Founder of Aangan of Kutch, Bhuj, Gujarat, for her pioneering work in empowering rural women artisans through sustainable livelihoods while preserving India’s craft heritage. Her initiative has revitalised traditional artistry, created dignified opportunities for women and built a bridge between heritage and modern enterprise.
Instituted in memory of Padma Vibhushan Smt. Jankidevi Bajaj, a visionary leader and champion of women’s emancipation, and sponsored by Bajaj Electricals Ltd., the Puraskar celebrates women whose work reflects Gandhian ideals of self-reliance, ethical leadership and social transformation. It continues to stand as a distinguished national honour, recognising women who not only empower others but also embody the spirit of progress, integrity and humanity that defines India’s collective journey forward.
