Hamaara Sapna

Profile

Hamaara Sapna (an initiative of Jamnalal Bajaj Seva Trust) strongly follows the principles laid down by none other than the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhiji, and followed by the late Shri Jamnalal Bajaj who believed in working towards the betterment of public good with humanity and humility. This NGO believes in providing opportunities to women from marginalized populations which can bring out the best in them and result in a better tomorrow. It encourages women to lead a mentally, physically and emotionally healthy lifestyle which filters down to a healthy family unit as a whole.

The Organization primarily works with Khadi and has successfully produced numerous products at its centers. Women learn tailoring and stitching. Some go on to learn embroidery. They are taught computer skills ranging from basic to photoshop. Spoken English gives them the voice to reach spaces they may lack confidence to otherwise approach. Counselling, along with talks, guest lectures and motivational speeches focus on Mental Health. Yoga focusses on improvement of health. The aim is to make them healthy in body, mind and soul, in a holistic manner.

The organization also organizes health camps, self-defense classes, human rights lectures and other talks interspersed with visits to museums, exhibitions and much more.

Our annual summer workshops for children and adults in the month of May, are well received, as every year a plethora of amazing new activities are taught at the centers.

Talents Behind Our Success

Initiatives

To explore and exhibit the talent of the beneficiaries and create awareness of opportunities available out there. Hamaara Sapna provides a platform to the beneficiaries to participate in exhibitions of various accessories, artificial jewellery and stitched clothes etc. Stitching a variety of clothes like yoga pants, yoga mats, daris, baby clothes, kurtis, churidars , Nehru coats has made them fashion conscious and increased their exposure to different materials as well. Today many women have become self-confident and make clothes for themselves and others. Participation in exhibitions have given beneficiaries experiences to deal with people from different areas of life. This has been a great learning curve for them.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Hamaara Sapna has carried out the following activities:

  • Purchased compost baskets from Stree Mukti Sanghatna (SMS), an NGO that deals with women’s emancipation. These baskets were distributed to all the beneficiaries of Tardeo and Dharavi Centre on International Women’s Day. The aim of the activity was to inculcate a sense of best out of waste and making your own compost. And to encourage them to be more nature conscious. Women who benefited from this initiative agreed to try making their own compost on a smaller scale.
  • Conducted summer workshops at its centers. Seva Charitable Trust, committed to nature conservation and sustainable development for adivasis living in Sanjay Gandhi National Park, was invited to take a few workshops. They taught children and women to make amazing products from used plastic bottles like bird feeders, indoor plant pots and stone paintings. These were to create an awareness to recycle waste and make something beautiful out of it. The children and women enjoyed these workshops and learnt something unique and different that they made themselves and could use in their homes.
  • New products: Yoga mat, yoga pant, clutches, batwas purses, kaftans, nighties
