Ultimate Table Tennis 2024: Eight teams to compete in new UTT season starting August 22
The Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT), India’s premier table tennis league, is gearing up for its upcoming season, scheduled to commence in Chennai from August 22 to September 7. Hosted at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, this event holds significance as it marks the league’s expansion to an eight-team format for the first time. Under the stewardship of Niraj Bajaj and Vita Dani, promoted by the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), UTT has played a pivotal role in fostering Indian table tennis talent since its inception in 2017.
The decision to expand the league is aimed at intensifying competition and nurturing emerging talent within the sport. Niraj Bajaj expressed his anticipation for the heightened level of competition brought about by the introduction of additional teams, emphasizing the strategic choice of Chennai as the host city to honour its rich sporting heritage and legendary paddlers.
The league’s expansion is a testament to the growing popularity of table tennis in India. Adding to the excitement, the 2024 edition will witness the inclusion of new franchises, namely the Ahmedabad SG Pipers and Jaipur Patriots, marking a significant milestone for UTT. Vita Dani reiterated the core mission of UTT, which is to elevate the stature of table tennis in India. She underscored recent victories by Indian players against Chinese opponents and the national teams’ Olympic qualification as key milestones in this journey.
